HOW DO I KEEP FRUIT FLIES AND SUGAR ANTS OFF OF MY RATS’ FOOD???????????????????????????????????????????????????
man i don’t understand why people don’t like rats
i mean if it’s a personal thing like a phobia of nakey tails and whiskers or something that’s different but generally speaking a lot of people are real dickish about them like “they’re evil and dirty” whatever but ok
they’re basically small dogs, they’re friendly and like cuddles and tummy rubs and take treats and all that and they’re also like cats in the sense they groom themselves like 39439429842 times per day. i mean yeah they kinda shit everywhere but you can littler box train them pretty easily
like yeah wild rats can be kinda crazy but sO DOES LIKE EVERY OTHER WILD ANIMAL??? like if you go up to a stray cat that’s never been domesticated they’re gonna be kinda crazy too….. also why are they seem as such a bother in places like parks??? no one complains about squirrels fuckin running all over the place RATS AREN’T EVEN DOING ANYTHING TO YOU i just don’t understand why some people think they’re so much better than rodents like ?????????
excuse my lack of grammar and swearing and general weirdness but i feel bad for the babies when people act real dickish towards creatures who have not wronged them in any way. like what if you adopted a puppy and your family was like “that thing is filthy and disgusting and i don’t think you should have it”??? that’s how it is when i got my rats i had to listen to so much shit
DON’T BE DICKS TO ANIMALS IT’S HONESTLY NOT THAT HARD ok by e
as a lot of you know, i was away from home for a month and a half seeing my boyfriend. during this time my mom took care of my rats, made sure they always had water and fed them every day. i left her a list of things they can’t eat and all that — they all look fine except for my albino girl, who my mom said “won’t eat anything!”
i picked her up today and noticed she definitely wasn’t her plump self anymore. once i gave her a short bath, her wet fur really made it obvious there’s something wrong. she’s extremely thin and bony. emaciated, really - she seems to be acting like her normal self but something is definitely not right
i asked my mom to get me one of those feeding syringes and she said she could get one monday, so i’m going to try to feed her that way. so far i’ve been trying to feed her really fatty foods like nuts and banana. i actually mixed up watered down peanut butter and olive oil for her, thinking both were high in calories, and she wouldn’t take it. they have a plethora of food right now, like most times. i found that if i wipe a little just below her mouth she will lick it off habitually because of grooming, but that is the only way i can get her to ingest anything :(
i’m scared for her and i don’t know what’s wrong… she isn’t sniffling, her teeth look fine, her coat is ok… can anytone help me??
a rat-friendly PSA
when someone tells you that they have pet rats here are things you should never ever say:
- "ew gross so unsanitary!"
- "they’re just vermin"
- "can’t you like, get the plague from those?"
- "they should be wild and not kept as pets"
- any kind of “ewwwwwwwwWWwwwww” in general
- any kind of general disgust
things you should probably say instead:
- "huh interesting"
- "do they make good pets?"
- "i’ve never had/seen a rat before"
- "i had a hamster once"
- etc etc
not only are rats very sanitary and very VERY sweet, loving animals but i don’t need YOUR approval! i love my rats, they’re very good furry friends and they love to cuddle and take food from your hand. i have never once been bitten, even while bathing them; in fact they like to give you kisses instead. they recognize my voice when i call them and LOVE lots of attention. their cage is quite large and they have lots of room to run around in and i give them things to play with as well as a healthy diet (and occasional treats of course). and that, to me, sounds better than scavenging back alleys for food while being abused by anyone who walks by.
believe it or not, rat owners DO have feelings for their smallish rodent friends. i know i love mine, and they show unconditional love for me. maybe you don’t like rodents, but that doesn’t mean you should automatically insult the judgment of the person who adopts them, call them vermin, etc. to each their own, and it’s quite a shame you hate my rats when you’ve never met them because i am 100% sure they’d show nothing but love for you.
